Koukoudo mastiha liqueur is a distinctive Greek liqueur made from mastiha, the unique resin of the mastic trees on the island of Chios. It is known for its fresh, herbal aromas and lightly sweet flavour. An authentic Mediterranean speciality, often served as a digestif.
Origin
Mastiha resin is produced exclusively on the island of Chios, where the mastic tree grows in a unique microclimate. This natural resin gives the liqueur its characteristic aromatic character.
Production
The liqueur is made by macerating mastiha resin in alcohol, after which sugar is added to create a soft, balanced flavour. This traditional process gives it its distinctive fresh, herbal aromas.
Tasting notes
Clear and pale. On the nose fresh aromas of pine resin, herbs and citrus. On the palate soft and aromatic, with a light sweetness and a refreshing, herbal finish.
Serving tips
Serve well chilled or over ice as a digestif after a meal. Also delicious in cocktails or with desserts and fruit.
