Retsina Malamatina – the most iconic retsina in Greece

Malamatina is without doubt the best-known retsina in Greece — loved by young and old for generations. Fresh, herbal and thirst-quenching, with the characteristic aroma of pine resin that defines this traditional wine style.

Grapes & origin
Made from the classic Greek varieties Savatiano and Roditis from the Thessaloniki region. The warm, dry climate and free-draining soils give grapes with ripe fruit and firm acidity — the perfect basis for a fresh retsina.

Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. During fermentation natural Aleppo pine resin is added, which provides the recognisable aromatic profile. Modern techniques keep the style fresh, balanced and approachable.

Tasting notes
Light yellow, with refreshing aromas of citrus, green apple and a subtle touch of pine resin. On the palate lively and dry, with mild spice, fresh acidity and a clean, thirst-quenching finish.

Serving tips
Serve well chilled at 6–8 °C. Delicious with classic Greek mezze, grilled fish, dolmadakia, courgette fritters or spicy dips such as tzatziki and skordalia. Also surprisingly good with street food or spicy Asian dishes.

Cellaring
Ideal drunk young and fresh, within 1 to 2 years of bottling. Once opened, keep refrigerated and use within a few days.
