Amethystos Red – Costa Lazaridi | Full, elegant and Greek with French class

Amethystos Red from Domaine Costa Lazaridi is an iconic wine from Drama, northern Greece, that links international allure to Greek terroir. This elegant red blend, with a clear Bordeaux character, is one of the estate’s most recognisable wines — rich, balanced and with lovely oak integration.

Grapes & origin
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Agiorgitiko from the estate’s own vineyards in Adriani (Drama). The terroir benefits from an ideal microclimate: warm days, cool nights and a mineral-rich subsoil.

Vinification
The grapes are vinified separately with skin maceration and temperature control. The wine then ages for 12 months in French oak barrels, partly new, to develop structure, finesse and complexity. Bottle ageing at the estate follows.

Tasting notes
Deep ruby red. On the nose aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, plum, cedar, liquorice and subtle spices. On the palate full and velvety, with ripe tannins, lively acidity and a long, elegant finish. Powerful, yet refined.

Serving tips
Serve at 17–18 °C. Decanting recommended. Delicious with beef, game, leg of lamb, stews or matured cheeses. Also suitable as a festive dinner wine or a stylish gift.

Cellaring
Very good — 8 to 10 years. Gains extra depth and complexity with bottle age.
