Mavrodaphne Kourtaki – classic dessert wine from Patras

A traditional Greek fortified wine with a rich history and a distinctive sweet flavour. Mavrodaphne Kourtaki is an approachable, much-loved choice for anyone who likes warm, spicy aromas and soft tannins — perfect with desserts or as a contemplative end to a meal.

Grapes & origin
Made from the indigenous varieties Mavrodaphne and a small share of Black Corinth, from the PDO Patras region in the north-west Peloponnese. Here the mild climate gives ripe grapes with concentrated aromas.

Vinification
After a short fermentation the must is fortified with wine alcohol to retain the natural residual sugar. The wine then ages in large oak vats, where it develops its complexity and velvety structure.

Tasting notes
Deep mahogany in the glass, with aromas of raisins, dried plums, coffee, chocolate and sweet spices. The flavour is rich, round and soft, with a long, warming finish and a well-balanced sweetness.

Serving tips
Serve lightly chilled (12–14 °C) as a digestif or with desserts such as dark chocolate, nut tart, raisin bread or blue cheeses. Also delicious with traditional Greek pastries such as baklava or karydopita.

Cellaring
Thanks to its fortified character this wine keeps for years, even after opening (provided it is stored cool and dark).
