About this dish
What are Kalitsounia from Chania?
These traditional cheese pies from the Chania region of Crete are known as kalitsounia. They are filled with xinomyzithra, a soft, slightly sour sheep’s and goat’s cheese typical of Crete. The combination of the thin dough and the creamy cheese filling gives a lovely balance between savoury and fresh. On Crete they are eaten for breakfast, for lunch, as a mezze and as a festive dish.
